December 2, 2014 - Christmas Ornaments Demo with Ed Pfau and Christmas Party!

Ed Pfau at the ready for the Christmas Ornaments demonstration - Image taken by Daniel Brinneman

Attention all ye Chipmakers and Turners

We have secured a great Demonstrator for our December meeting. Sir Ed Pfau has graciously agreed to show all the ins and outs of doing beautiful Christmas Ornaments, which of course includes the tiny spindles that go so well with them.

Ed has done many of these. He has taught this numerous times before this Christmas time.  As a machinist, Ed can do anything you might be able to dream up. NO Joke!

So saddle up your horse, hitch up the sleigh (pray for snow) and head over to Dave and Joan McKeithan's hideout and beautiful shop. You won't be disappointed since the gals have planned a Party after the Demo!

Don't forget to bring a piece of wood, or a tool you no longer use to give away in the raffle.  Or something else that someone else can use. Be generous as this it the spirit of the SEASON!

Our Famous WWT Raffle is always good.

Bring your favorite spouse, significant other, or boss you are trying to impress.
This is the place to be on Tuesday evening @ 6:30 pm.

Seasons Greetings to all.

August 5, 2014 - Hook Tool Demonstration by Moe Gingerich

Moe demonstrates use of his homemade Hook Tool
When we desire to hollow a vase or other deeper vessel it seems we are always frustrated. Last winter, Alan Lacer presented making a hook tool which he touts as a great way to make your own method.

He presents a fairly easy way to make a tool without lots of outlay. Using easily available devices most folks may even have in their shop and in an hour you can make one. It is not hard and not rocket science.

This demo presented by Moe Gingerich will outline and detail making your own Hook Tool that you should be able to enjoy and use with ease.

Here's the Hook Tool handout that Moe distributed during the meeting.

Roland Hege

With much sadness I have been informed that our dear friend, Roland Hege, has passed away last night.

I guess he was having some trouble breathing then had a cardiac arrest in the hospital…

He was a wonderful friend, woodturner, with a great sense of humor. He and a friend designed and made a beautiful Rose Engine lathe being able to make the most intricate turnings you ever saw! What a wonderful machinist instructor-technician with a special list of friends all over the place.

Roland will be missed tremendously.
