Tuesday 10/3/2017 @6:30 PM Waxhaw Woodturners Demonstration

The next Waxhaw Woodturners meeting will be on Tuesday, October 3 at 6:30 PM. As usual, we’ll meet at Hunter House (13428 Providence Road, Weddington, NC).

This month’s program will be a demonstration on making a faux cigar pen. This is a wood Pen that resembles a real cigar. See the photo below.

John Walsh will go through all the steps: selecting the wood, preparing the blanks, turning and finishing the Pen.

We will also hold a raffle of woodturning-related items. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. If you have any items in your shops you no longer need (or have no idea what they’re for) or extraneous wood, donate them to the raffle. For each item you donate (up to three) you will receive one free raffle ticket.

Don’t forget to bring your latest turnings to share with everyone during the Show-N-Tell portion of the meeting.

 Guests are more than welcome.

Want to have a bigger say in what goes on with our club? Volunteer for one of several positions on the leadership team. Elections will be held during the December meeting. If you are interested, please contact one of the current board members: Rick Erexson, Kim Bass, John Walsh, Gary Janes, Joe Giannina or Bob Meunier. More info will be provided at the meeting.

The North Carolina Woodturning Symposium will be held on November 3, 4 and 5 in Greensboro, NC. We are hosting one of the demonstration rooms and will need volunteers to help out. If we get enough volunteers, the tour of duty will only be one of the nine demonstrations in our room. Details will be provided at the next meeting and a sign up sheet will be available.

If you have any Beads of Courage Bowls, bring them to the meeting and we will make arrangements to get them to the folks at Hemby Children’s Hospital.
